Generally, each township within a Principle Meridian contains 36 Sections each measuring a distance of one square mile or 640 acres.
Sections are always laid out within a township in the way shown on the map.
Please Note: There are occasionally townships, and sections within those townships that are "odd shaped". There are also townships with less than 36 sections.
These irregularities usually occur at Federal, State, and Meridian boundaries, as well as some land grant and mining district boundaries.
